Lids: Chanel Trait de Caractère Eyeshadow combination ($70)
I keep waiting on that moment, that pang in my gut that so commonly occurs with Chanel LE palettes, particularly the holiday ones. It’s that moment when I recognize that — OMG — this combination [is deserving of] worship, as well as I can’t online without it. I keep waiting on it to begin with the new $70 Trait de Caractère holiday palette.
And waiting, as well as waiting, as well as waiting…

Trait de Caractère, the new $70 Eyeshadow combination from the Chanel holiday Collection (available now)
Trait de Caractère is on counters now, together with the rest of Chanel’s holiday 2017 Collection, as well as I’ve used it a number of times over the past few weeks, many just recently to brunch with my parents (I mixed the matte brown with the shimmery taupe, mixed it on my lids, then lined the lash lines with the dark green), as well as ya know… It’s a’ight.
Say hi, mother as well as Dad!
Technically, the combination ticks the best boxes as well as has sufficient goodness to make it memorable. It has five powder eyeshadows that are similar to the eyeshadows in Les Beiges healthy Glow, in that they’re sheer-to-medium pigment, with soft, easy-to-blend powders. Yeah, there’s a bit bit of fallout, however not as much as healthy Glow, say thanks to goodness… Not sufficient to turn me off.
I’m using the brown shade mixed with the charcoal shade on my lids, the eco-friendly shade mixed with the carcoal on my lower lash lines, as well as the shimmery taupe as a highlighter.
Trait de Caractère combines a great blend of workhorse colors with a bright pop of green, so it balances helpful as well as fun, which is always a excellent thing to me. I can’t grumble about the wear time of the shadows, either. They quickly last a full work day from 9 a.m. till 7.

But…even with the positive things, Trait de Caractère just isn’t inspiring that next level of lust for me. I believe what this combination is lacking is that additional something-something special sauce that separates the “just OK” Chanel palettes from legendary ones.
Gosh, keep in mind Codes Subtils from earlier this year, the one with all those lovely shimmery completes that were shiny however not as well shiny? practically glossy? UGH. SO GOOD. as well as even the much more recent eye combination from autumn that had the crazy teals as well as matte tan road Movie, which was so pigmented as well as rich as well as fun as well as rich as well as just EVERYTHING.

Compared to those other palettes, Trait de Caractère is 100% just okay to me. It’s totally functional, however it doesn’t rather reach awe-inspiring, as well as isn’t that (awe-inspiring) something one always wants from Chanel? A bit dash of magic?
